Our mission at Desmos is to help every student learn math and love learning math. But “every student” is a lot of students representing many different identities and lived experiences. Our team at Desmos is, by contrast, very small and very aware that our identities, experiences, and biases limit our ability to help every student.
So every year, we invite a diverse and talented group of educators to join the Desmos Fellowship. We specifically seek teachers who will help shape our understanding of “every student” and their needs. Those teachers meet together over one summer weekend, sharing food and fellowship, participating in learning experiences led by current Desmos Fellows and faculty, and also shaping the learning of the group themselves.
That fellowship continues throughout the year, with its members collaborating and encouraging each other remotely through Slack and email, and in-person at conferences and events. Desmos supports the Fellows however we can, including opportunities for career growth and early preview access to every new feature and activity we release at Desmos. The Fellows continue their support of our work just by letting us sit in on their interesting conversations and letting us play a supporting role in their work.
